You’ve tackled the labels, now it’s time for the limits. When you’re young, limits get served to you on a daily basis in the form of rules. Raise your hand to be excused to use the bathroom, ask to… well, do/get/go anything, anywhere with anyone. Once you pass the point of requiring formal rules (assuming you mature this much), limits get served to you by even more people, more often! It doesn’t seem fair, but it’s true.
The reason why you don’t notice it is because the limits don’t look like rules, they look like shoulds and shouldn’ts. You get these shoulds and shouldn’ts in the form of magazines, advertisements, every social media platform, friends, parents, coworkers, and neighbors. Because the shoulds and shouldn’ts are floating in the air like free radicals (rather than being attached to you like a label), they can be harder to recognize, detach from, and overcome. Lucky for you, there’s a step-by-step process for it (you’ll notice it looks similar, but has some key differences)!
Because you can’t control the messages you get from the outside world, keeping limits at bay will mean repeating this process every few months or years along with curating your awesome labels collection.
